Wealden District Council’s recent announcement of a three-part action plan to tackle the use of single-use plastics has been welcomed by Wealden MP Nus Ghani.

One part of the action plan is to rollout the “Refill” campaign across Wealden, and Nus is encouraging as many Wealden businesses as possible to join in and provide “Refill Stations”.

By putting a “Refill” sticker in their window, Wealden businesses such as cafes, restaurants and bars, among others, can encourage people to come in fill up a water bottle for free, cutting down on unnecessary usage of plastic bottles.

Nationally, the Government have also announced that they are consulting on the introduction of a deposit return scheme, further encouraging recycling.

Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, said: “Looking after our environment is one of the most important issues for our generation, ensuring we protect Wealden’s stunning natural beauty.

“Cutting down on single-use plastics is a great way to limit our impact on the environment, and it’s great to see Wealden District Council set out their three part action plan.

“The ‘Refill’ campaign has been a great success in other parts of the country and I would encourage all local business in Hailsham, Uckfield, Crowborough and Wealden villages to sign up to the app, display a sticker and welcome people in to fill up their bottles.”
