His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.
The Royal Family issued the statement on Twitter just after 12pm.
In the statement it said: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.”
Following his death, East Sussex MPs paid their tributes.
Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, added: “Such sad news to hear of the death of Duke of Edinburgh. I had the pleasure of meeting his Royal Highness and he was always charming with a hint of mischief. My thoughts and prayers are with Her Majesty The Queen.”
