Commemorative Coin gifted to Nus Ghani by the Royal British Legion

Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, joined with members of the Crowborough Royal British Legion, and cadets from Crowborough, at the Canadian War Memorial, to commemorate 9 Canadian soldiers, of the Lincoln and Welland Regiment, who were killed by a flying bomb on July 5th 1944.

They died in Wealden, on the same day as Operation Windsor, a Canadian attack, which was part of the Battle of Normandy during the Second World War.

Nus, and members of the Royal British Legion, joined for a commemoration of the dead at the site of the memorial, followed by a formal reception at the nearby Crowborough Beacon Golf Club Clubhouse.

Nus was also gifted a commemorative coin for the anniversary by the RBL.

Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, said:

“The deaths of these men, the same day that their comrades were fighting in Normandy, demonstrates the multi-faceted ways in which people sacrificed for the cause of our freedom.

“It was a privilege to attend this commemoration, and to be reminded of Wealden’s links around the world.

“Thank you to the Royal British Legion for organising this important, and moving, event, and for their generous gift of a beautiful commemorative coin.”

Standing Up For Our Armed Forces

The security of the United Kingdom and the British people depends on many things, not least our economic security, but ultimately we depend on the British Armed Forces to keep us safe at home and abroad. I consider it my first duty to do whatever I have to do to keep the people of Wealden safe. One of the best ways in which I can do that is to support and stand up for our Armed Forces in Parliament.
