Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed the next phase of the Local Authority Discretionary Grant scheme, delivered by the Wealden District Council.

At the beginning of May, the Government announced a Discretionary Grant for certain small businesses which were not eligible for previous funding such as the Small Business Grants Fund and the Retail, Leisure and Hospitality Grants Fund.

Phase One of applications has taken place throughout June and awards have been made to those who met the eligibility criteria. However, funding of approximately £1.6 million is still available for the Council to utilise for other local businesses.

The Council’s local discretion priorities differ from those of the Phase One scheme and the Council is keen to support all those that meet the criteria set by both Central Government and the Council, under Phase Two of the scheme. Small and micro businesses within the Wealden District are now able to submit their details to apply for funding from the Discretionary ‘top-up’ Grant.

Applications are now open and the closing date for submissions is 5pm on Monday 27 July.

For more information and to apply, please visit the Wealden District Council website here.

Nus Ghani said: “Small businesses are at the heart of our local community and the last few months have been an incredibly difficult period for them. I am pleased to see the great work of Wealden Council in supporting local businesses and I am delighted that many Wealden businesses have already received Government support.“

“However, I am also aware that some businesses may have previously been ineligible for Government funding and are struggling financially. I encourage business owners that were previously unable to apply to check the new criteria and get in touch with Wealden District Council.”
