Wealden MP Nus Ghani recently hosted one of her regular MP advice surgeries at the Sussex Support Service at Victoria Pavilion in Uckfield.
The Sussex Support Service provides specialised focused care and activities for people living with dementia and Parkinson’s disease. In a comfortable, relaxed and welcoming environment, the Sussex Support Service is able to deliver extra care needs provided by their expert qualified team.
There is a wide variety of activities available, including arts and crafts, cooking, gardening projects, music, and cognitive stimulation therapy.
Nus Ghani has a long record of supporting and working with people with dementia, having formerly chaired the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Ageing and Elder People. In 2016, Nus hosted the launch of the Sussex Elders’ Commission report, working with Sussex Police to prevent crimes against older people.
Nus holds regular surgeries across Wealden in Hailsham, Crowborough, Uckfield, Wadhurst and Mayfield.
Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, said: “The way we, as a society, respond to people with dementia is a vital humanitarian issue, so I was pleased to hold my surgery at the Sussex Support Service to offer my assistance to helping people with dementia and their carers.
“The Sussex Support Service does fantastic work helping older people across Wealden. There is a real feel of community and spirit and that is testament to the hardworking staff who do such wonderful and supportive work.
“We cannot shy away from facing the issue of social care going forward, and services like the Sussex Support Service are a shining example of how we can ensure that everyone can have a long and happy life into old age.”
