Nus Ghani has joined locals from across Wealden to ensure that East Sussex County Council consider all possible options for rethinking the way recycling centres in Wealden operate.

An initial proposal had suggested the closure of the recycling centres at Wadhurst and Forest Row. Many constituents have been in touch with Nus to express their concerns at the potential closure of the recycling centres, and having campaigned on environmental issues since she was first elected, Nus is keen to ensure that Wealden’s environment is cared for appropriately.

Keeping the recycling centres open is an important step to ensure that Nus and her constituents can do their bit to help protect the environment and recycle as much as possible. A consultation on the proposal is likely to start within the next month, and will be available on the consultation hub at https://consultation.eastsussex.gov.uk/.

In the meantime, constituents wanting to express their view should write to the Keith Glazier, leader of East Sussex Country Council, at [email protected].

Commenting on the proposals, Ms Ghani said: “I was surprised by the initial proposals to consult on closing the recycling centres at Wadhurst and Forest Row.

“We are incredibly lucky to be surrounded by wonderful countryside in Wealden, and it falls on each of us to do our bit to keep that environment clean, and keeping the recycling centres open is an important step to ensure that we pass on a clean and beautiful environment to our children.

“I am therefore calling on the County Council to ensure that they have fully considered all potential avenues for changing the way our recycling centres operate. This is an issue that matters not just to me, but to my constituents, and I am hopeful that we can reach an amicable solution.”
