Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, was pleased to learn that the Mayfield & Five Ashes Community Services (MAYFACS) have recently secured funding from the National Lottery Community Fund to support their activities.
National Lottery players raise over £30 million each week for good causes throughout the UK. Since November 2021, the National Lottery Community Fund has awarded £193,789 to community projects in Wealden and MAYFACS are one of the most recent recipients.
MAYFACS is community-based support service for the residents of Mayfield and Five Ashes and the surrounding area, offering a variety of information, guidance, activities and services to local people of all ages and needs. The funding will support the integration of MAYFACS as a community hub facility into the new community hall, enabling the organisation to continue providing their support services and help alleviate loneliness and isolation.
In summer 2020, then manager of MAYFACS Shirley Holland was awarded the Wealden Hero Award for mobilising a group of volunteers and providing a huge network of services and assistance to the whole community throughout periods of lockdown.
Nusrat Ghani said: “Community projects such as MAYFACS play a crucial role in supporting those who are most in need in Wealden. This vital source of funding has already provided a lifeline to many local community organisations and helped them recover from the impact of the pandemic. It is fantastic news that MAYFACS are the latest recipients of this grant, which will enable them to continue their work supporting the residents of Mayfield and Five Ashes.”
