Nusrat Ghani, MP for Sussex Weald, offers warm congratulations winners of the BBC Radio Sussex ‘Make a Difference’ Awards.
The Make a Difference Awards are BBC Radio Sussex and BBC Radio Surrey’s annual celebration of local individuals and groups who truly ‘Make a Difference’ to other people’s lives. The nominations are submitted by the public, and a collection of local community leaders whittle the hundreds of nominations down to four finalists in each of the following categories: Community, Carer, Volunteer, Fundraiser, Great Neighbour, Animal, Green and Bravery.
Nusrat Ghani was pleased to join the judging panel and was honoured to select the winner from the final four entries in this year's Community Group category.
The winner was Selsey Buddy Support, which offers everything from grocery runs and pet food deliveries to tech help and transport for medical appointments. Powered by passionate volunteers, this initiative also brings people together through English and sign language classes, as well as companionship through the Robins befriending service.
Nusrat Ghani said: "The BBC Radio Sussex ‘Make a Difference’ Awards are a fantastic way of recognising brilliant people in our villages and towns and gives us a moment to say thank you for the outstanding contributions to our communities. The judging process has been incredibly difficult as there have been so many incredible stories of selfless dedication to helping others. A huge congratulations to Selsey Buddy Support Group, who provide a wraparound service for the whole community."
Previously, Dawn Stephen from Crowborough won the Great Neighbour award and Rachael Gibson from Heathfield was Highly Commended in the Community category.
