Nusrat Ghani, MP for Sussex Weald, has written to East Sussex County Council’s lead member for transport Cllr Claire Dowling to share concerns about the state of local roads and make representations on behalf of residents.
Sustained periods of wet or freezing weather always make matters worse, with winter and early spring being the most prevalent seasons for potholes developing and repairs deteriorating quicker.
Having seen a huge increase in correspondence from frustrated local road users, Nusrat is pressing the County Council to respond and prioritise the fixing of the sheer volume of potholes and poor, uneven road surfaces that have appeared in certain parts of Sussex Weald.
Nusrat Ghani said: “Having recently received a large volume of written correspondence from constituents sharing their concerns, and from speaking with local residents across the constituency in recent weeks, it is clear that potholes are currently one of the biggest concerns locally. Driving across the constituency every weekend for my surgeries, I recognise and share their frustration as well as concerns about the impact of poor road conditions on public safety. It is absolutely vital that our roads continue to receive the investment they need and I have made urgent representations to the County Council to rectify the worst areas across Sussex Weald without delay, as a priority.”
