Nusrat Ghani, MP for Sussex Weald, was pleased to join The Estée Lauder Companies UK&I at Pink Ribbon Tea event in Parliament, in support of their Breast Cancer Campaign.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which presents an opportunity to recognise the progress that’s been made, but also to raise awareness about the importance of regular self-checks and early action.

The Estée Lauder Companies’ Breast Cancer Campaign was founded in 1992 by the late Evelyn H. Lauder, with the launch of the iconic Pink Ribbon. Since then, the company dedicated millions in vital funding for lifesaving research, education, and medical services.

Breast cancer is a heartbreaking disease which can affect anyone, of any age or gender. Getting to know what looks and feels normal for you could make all the difference.

Here are some of the symptoms to look out for:

  • Lumps in your chest, breast or armpit.
  • A change in the shape of breast or either side of your chest.
  • Redness, rashes, dimpling or texture changes (like orange-peel skin or thickening of the skin).
  • Changes in the look or shape of the nipple (like inverted nipples, or unusual discharge) – if not pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • And any pain that doesn’t go away.

Nusrat Ghani said: “Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK and remains one of the biggest health challenges. Breast Cancer Awareness month provides an opportunity to honour those were impacted by this horrible disease by raising awareness and funds for vital research. My thoughts this October will be with all the Sussex Weald women who are battling the disease, and I would like to pay tribute especially to the strength of local mothers who are getting through each day with cancer while carrying on as mums. Early diagnosis is very important in the battle against breast cancer, so please do take time to get to know the symptoms to look out for and remember to self-check regularly.”
