Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed the announcement of a £500,000 funding boost to help improve safety on roads across Wealden and East Sussex over the next three years.

The money, part of East Sussex County Council’s capital programme, will be used to assess all A and B roads to ensure speed limits are appropriate, and identify areas where they could be reduced. Over the next three years, the project will see more than 25 stretches of road benefit from speed limit reductions or measures that will increase the effectiveness of existing speed limits. Potential improvements include extensions or reduction in speed limits, Vehicle Activated Signs, road surface treatments, and new signage and lining.

Nusrat Ghani said: “I welcome this additional funding to help carry out an assessment of speed limits across the county and ensure they are effective. I appreciate that road safety is a widespread concern amongst residents, and I have previously made representations to the East Sussex County Council and Highways on behalf of local communities regarding traffic issues near Hellingly Primary School and in Piltdown village. I hope that funding will help with prioritising areas of most concern and introducing measures to ensure safer roads across the county.”
