Wealden

Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed the news that rural community projects across Wealden will benefit from over £120,000 Government support, delivered through the Community Infrastructure and Spaces capital grants programme.

This new funding programme has been made possible through the Government’s Rural England Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), a new £110 million two-year capital fund from the Department for Environmental, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and is complementary to the UK Shared Prosperity Fund run by the Department of Levelling Up Housing and Communities (DLUHC).

In April last year, it was announced that Wealden District Council would benefit from £838,120 as part of this fund, of which the Council is now allocating £121,259.90 towards the Community Infrastructure and Spaces Grants Programme. Grants between £1,000 and £20,000 are available, and applications will be processed by Wealden District Council on a first come first served basis.

Town and parish councils and not-for-profits are encouraged to apply for this funding to support projects that could enhance green spaces and local facilities or improve community infrastructure in civil societies and community groups. Applicants must spend the grants on assets such as equipment and features which help to create or improve spaces/ facilities or infrastructure where the benefits last more than 12 months.

Nusrat Ghani said: “I am constantly campaigning for more investment for Wealden and I’m pleased that over £120,000 of Government funding will help expand opportunities for our local civic and community groups to improve their infrastructures and green spaces. The grants can be used for a variety of projects, so I would like to encourage Wealden parish councils and not for profit organisations to check the eligibility criteria and consider applying.”
