Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, welcomes the news that Waitrose and Co-op have become the latest supermarkets to launch ‘Best of British’ sections on their websites.
This move by Waitrose and Co-op to highlight the Best of British joins Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Ocado and Aldi as part of a national campaign to support customers in making smarter food choices and becoming more aware of British options when online shopping.
Co-op’s new “Best of British” section aims to champion the best British-produced foods available online including the 100% British beef, pork and chicken ranges, fresh fruits, vegetables, eggs, milk and cheese lines. Waitrose has added a ‘Best of British’ section to Waitrose.com, which the supermarket said would look to expand if it proved successful with customers.
Nusrat Ghani said: “I am in regular contact with Wealden farmers and the National Farmer’s Union, and hear their concerns that larger supermarkets needed to do more to stock and promote locally sourced produce. It is welcome news that 6 national supermarkets now have the ‘Buy British’ button, making it much easier for online shoppers to choose local produce and protecting both the environment and our local farmers. I will always support the Back British Farming campaign, and will continue to champion our high-quality produce.”
