Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed the Department of Transport's competition launch to identify the future headquarters of the new Great British Railways organisation and is encouraging Wealden authorities to submit a bid for Uckfield.
Britain’s railways are embarking on a major, once in a generation reform that will transform the way in which the sector works. Great British Railways will be the future organisation that oversees the operational delivery of the railway. A competition to identify the location of the national headquarters of the future Great British Railways has been launched and Nusrat is encouraging Wealden authorities to submit an application for Uckfield.

Nusrat Ghani said: “This is a fantastic initiative and an exciting opportunity to put Uckfield on the map and boost local jobs. It was great to welcome the rail minister to Eridge recently, to celebrate the step-free upgrades to the station and highlight the need for further investment into Wealden rail infrastructure, especially into the electrification of the Uckfield line. It would be fantastic to see Wealden as the proud home of the Great British Railways Headquarters and I have encouraged Wealden District Council to put Uckfield forward.”
