Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed the fantastic news that over 35,000 Wealden residents have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine.
As of 25th February, 35,264 people in Wealden have been vaccinated with at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, representing 32.1% of the constituency’s population. To date, more than 548,735 vaccinations have been delivered across Sussex, including 535,544 first doses.
The vaccination programme continues to be rolled out across East Sussex with excellent progress. Data shows that the jab has been received by:
- all eligible care home residents
- 93% of people aged 80+
- 93.5% of those aged 75-79
- 91.9% of those aged 70-74
- 72.3% of those aged 65-69
- 79% of clinically vulnerable individuals
Vaccinations for those who are housebound are underway, carried out by GP practice or Primary Care Network teams and Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust.
Nus has recently visited the Crowborough Covid-19 vaccination site at Saxonbury House surgery to thank the medical staff and volunteers and experience first-hand the fantastic work being carried out to vaccinate Wealden residents against coronavirus. Up to 600 people are vaccinated at the surgery every day and such has been their excellent progress that over 14,000 jabs have been distributed at Saxonbury House to date.
Nus Ghani said: “Each dose administered represents a triumph over the virus and it is excellent news that over a third of Wealden residents have now received this vital protection. I am incredibly grateful to everyone who has made the vaccine rollout a great success and I continue to hold weekly meetings with East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, Public Health England, senior nurses and local health practitioners, as well as the Vaccine Minister to receive the most up to date information on vaccine progress in Wealden. My focus remains on securing vaccines for Wealden, reaching out to hesitant constituents and ensuring that everyone in Wealden has access to the vaccine in line with the Government’s roll out programme. When it is your turn to receive the vaccine, please honour the appointment and get vaccinated.”
The United Kingdom is leading the way with its vaccination programme. So far, more than 18.6 million people have received a vaccine – equivalent to 1 in 3 adults. Everyone in the top four priority groups has now been offered a vaccine, and invites are now going out those in priority groups 5 to 9.
