Uckfield News

Each station has been allocated £30,000 from a penalty imposed on the train operator for poor performance.

The works will include:

  • Uckfield: landscaping, seating, canopy over ticket machine, bus customer information screen, shelter improvements, defibrillator.
  • Buxted: toilet improvements, waiting shelter refurbishment, additional seating, signage, defibrillator.

The news was given by Wealden MP, Nus Ghani, who said in December 2018, the Government announced it was holding Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) – Uckfield Line operator Southern is part of the group – to account for its role in the “unacceptable performance” following the introduction of the May 2018 timetable.

As a result, GTR contributed £15m towards “tangible improvements” for passengers, known as the Passenger Benefit Fund.

“After an extensive consultation process, the final stage of the GTR programme is being delivered and train stations on the Uckfield Line will benefit from various improvements.

“Securing improvements to rail services in Wealden remains one of my priorities,” the MP said.

Eridge also has a new footbridge, which opened last autumn and a lift from the platform to road level is planned.

  • A new railway station building was opened at Uckfield in 2010.
