The Covid-19 vaccine rollout across the Wealden constituency in East Sussex is continuing and recently MP Nus Ghani visited the vaccination site at Meads Medical Centre, Uckfield, to witness the delivery of first and second doses of the vaccine.
The Meads Medical Centre along with other surgeries within the Greater Wealden Primary Care Network, have been administering the vaccines since mid-December, delivering the lifesaving jab not only to patients of surgeries in Uckfield, but also Buxted, Herstmonceux, Heathfield and the Mid Downs Medical Practice.
Up to 1,200 people have been vaccinated at the surgery in a clinic. Such has been their excellent progress that 25,000 jabs have been delivered through the Greater Wealden Primary Care Network to date, contributing to the one million jabs delivered across the whole of Sussex.
Nus followed the journey of a patient who was receiving his second dose of the jab. Thanks to the fantastic organisation and efficiency of staff and volunteers, the whole process of immunising took about two minutes.
Nus was welcomed by Dr Emma Walbrook, Dr Kevin Ellis, and Dr Andrew Duckworth - GP Partners at the practice, and Charlotte Luck, the Practice Manager.
Charlotte has recently been awarded Practice Manager of the Year in this year’s national General Practice Awards, which is a fantastic demonstration of the remarkable work carried out by primary care in Wealden. Nus has highlighted her achievement during Prime Minister’s Questions in Parliament and the PM has joined Nus in paying tributes to her personally, and the teams in Uckfield, Hailsham and Crowborough.
Nus Ghani said: “I am incredibly grateful to the whole team at Meads Medical Centre for their dedication and tireless work to deliver the vaccine to Wealden residents and save lives.
“Our Wealden GPs helped deliver one million Covid-19 vaccines across Sussex to date to protect the lives of Wealden residents. I would like to thank Charlotte Luck, Dr Kevin Ellis, Dr Emma Walbrook, Dr Andrew Duckworth and all the staff that I had the pleasure to meet for working round the clock to administer the vaccine, whilst also ensuring that normal GP services continue.
“Vaccines are our safest way out of this pandemic, and I am pleased that the vaccine rollout has been a great success across Wealden. Please take the first available appointment when it is your turn to receive the jab and help to beat the virus in our communities.”
