The Ministry of Defence and Department for Education recently announced a new bursary of £40,000 for ex-service personnel to retrain as teachers. Nus Ghani, the MP for Wealden, has welcomed this announcement.
Anyone who has left the British Army, Royal Air Force or Royal Navy in the last five years, or anyone leaving before their training begins, will be eligible for the bursary from September 2018.
The incentive will help ex-servicemen and women utilise their discipline, motivation and unique skills to become great teachers, and make the transition to the classroom where they can share their expertise with the next generation.
Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, said: “Our Armed Forces are the very best in the world, and it is the talented men and women who serve their country that give our forces the world class reputation they deserve.
“I am delighted to see that a new bursary will encourage ex-service personnel to get into teaching.
“The leadership, team-work and problem solving of our Armed Forces is well suited to the classroom, and I know that kids across the country will benefit from their expertise and mind-set.
“Many Wealden residents over the years have written or met me to support this bursary. I campaigned hard for it both as a member of the Armed Forces Bill Committee and as a member of the Parliamentary Armed Forces Scheme, where I saw first-hand the bravery and dedication of our military. This scheme will put those admirable traits to good use as they re-adjust to civilian life.”
