Wendy Coleman

I am delighted to announce that Wendy Coleman has been awarded the Wealden Hero Award this week.

Wendy is the manager of TN22 Plus Club, which runs bi-weekly at Hadlow Down Village Hall and is tailored to those with memory loss and dementia. The Club runs personalised activities with an emphasis on friendship and fun and offers companionship for people living in rural Wealden. The TN22 Plus Club relies on help from a group of volunteers who provide personalised support to enhance the wellbeing of its members and help them continue to do the things they enjoy.

Although the Club remains closed due to Covid-19, the volunteers have remained in weekly contact with their members. As well as making regular phone calls, The Club also delivered care package gifts, with help from Tesco Bags of Help Covid-19 fund, Persimmon Homes Community Fund, National Lottery Community Fund, and the Police and Crime Commissioner. Part of the packaged gifts were beautiful soaps kindly donated by the English Soap Company and distributed to local food banks, hospitals and communities by Nus Ghani and her team. Wendy also organised entertainment in the form of music and dancing in the members’ gardens, in a safe way and with social distancing in place. For more information about the TN22 Plus Club, please visit: www.engagewealden.org.uk.

I am aware of how challenging this time is for our elderly and their carers. Supporting a family member with dementia is extremely challenging and the lockdown was particularly difficult period for carers. I am grateful for the amazing work that Wendy is doing and the initiatives she organised to keep in touch with members throughout the pandemic. Many thanks and congratulations, Wendy!

The Wealden Hero Awards are kindly supported by Uckfield FM, Kent and Sussex Courier, Sussex Express and Hailsham FM.
