Hidden Spring Vineyard

Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has visited Hidden Spring vineyard in Horam to meet its owners and support this year’s harvest, which is currently underway.

The vineyard, which was originally established in 1986, is a 23-acre small holding run by a small team led by Richard and Sara Asman, who took ownership of Hidden Spring in early 2022. Hidden Spring is currently producing around 20,000 bottles a year, offering a range of still and sparkling white and rosé wines. Situated in close proximity to the Cuckoo Trail, the vineyard’s shop and tasting room is open to visitors Wednesdays-Sundays 11am-6pm, offering winery tours, cheese and wine pairing tours and other seasonal culinary events.

Last year, Sussex Wine was designated as a UK Geographical Indication (GI). This status provides a guarantee to consumers that the product they are buying is authentic, and the recognition means Sussex wine will join the family of Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) registered products from across the UK, such as Scotch Whisky, Welsh Lamb and Cornish pasty.

Nusrat Ghani said: “I’m proud that Wealden is the home of some of the very best vineyards in the UK, producing globally renowned, award-winning wines of the highest quality. I was pleased to visit Hidden Spring to support Wealden’s harvest season, and to learn more about their fantastic range of wines as well as the events and activities available to visitors. I will always champion our local winemakers and I’m delighted that the designation of Sussex wine as a UK Geographical Indication was secured last year, to help our outstanding small producers get recognised all over the world.”

Wealden is a beautiful place, with rolling countryside, stunning forests and energetic towns. Wealden is also home to many amazing farms, which are the lifeblood of rural life. I want to build a Rural Powerhouse, one known for its thriving small businesses, including its farms and vineyards, as for the beauty of its countryside.
