Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed the announcement of additional funding awarded to East Sussex County Council to increase the installation of electric vehicle chargepoints across the region.

As part of the Government’s Plan for Drivers, East Sussex County Council has been awarded £4,441,000 Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Capital Funding, in addition to the £587,000 of LEVI funding already approved by the Department for Transport.

This builds on the £157,000 grant secured for Wealden District Council in January last year to increase car park electric vehicle chargepoints in the area, including Forest Row, Crowborough, Uckfield, Wadhurst and Hailsham.

This investment will help significantly scale up the reliability and availability of electric vehicle chargepoints in the area, which gives more opportunities for residents and visitors to charge their vehicles at various places in Wealden.

The LEVI fund will nationally distribute £343 million of capital and £37.8 million of capability funding over the next two financial years, supporting local authorities in delivering more chargepoints and helping residents switch to electric vehicles if they wish.

Nusrat Ghani said: “I’m pleased that East Sussex is benefitting from Government funding to boost electric chargepoints across the region, enabling local residents and visitors to recharge their vehicles more easily. This investment comes on top of the £157,000 secured for additional electric vehicle infrastructure across car parks in Wealden last year, which delivered more chargepoints in Crowborough, Hailsham, Wadhurst, Uckfield and Forest Row, amongst other locations. This funding is great news for local EV drivers and reaffirms the Government’s commitment to decarbonising transport.”
