Statement

Prior to the news breaking, Nusrat Ghani said: "Having the courage to speak truth to power has always been my style. As a British MP I will do my job without fear or favour and won’t be intimidated. I stood up for the UK and was sanctioned 5 years ago by the Chinese Communist Party and President Xi. The only female MP to face sanctions with four of my MP colleagues. 5 years ago, 7 of us were sanctioned by Chinese Communist Party for doing our job as MPs - exposing security concerns and Uyghur slave Labour (in our supply chains). MPs agreed that CCP was orchestrating a genocide against the Uyghur people. The sanctions were meant to intimidate us MPs and prevent us from doing our jobs. Bartering our MP sanctions doesn’t change those facts nor help others in the UK targeted by CCP and sanctioned by them."
