Nusrat Ghani, MP for Sussex Weald, continues to make representations to Ministers regarding the situation at Crowborough Training Camp.

Having made several representations to the Home Office and the Ministry of Defence especially with regards to the Cadets, Nusrat met with the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government Steve Reed MP to discuss concerns about unrest in Crowborough and what more can be done to secure more resources for Sussex Police.

Nusrat Ghani said: “I met with the Secretary of State as it was published in the Times newspaper that he was concerned about unrest in Crowborough. I wanted to have oversight of the work his department has done and discuss what more can be done to secure additional funding for Sussex Police for extra policing around the site.

I continue to make representations to the Home Office for them to share evidence how has the site been made safe, legal and compliant and for how long will it house asylum seekers as there are now discrepancies in the Home Office’s communication as to whether it will be 12 or 18 months.

I have been working with the Army and the RAF Cadets to make sure that a suitable alternative site is secured for them in the meantime and I am supporting them further in securing funding for equipment that cannot be moved from the Training Camp.

To date, Wealden District Council have refused to meet with me and my neighbouring MPs and have not responded to my correspondence requesting evidence of what legal advice they have taken.

I have not stopped working on the matter with the arrival of the asylum seekers last month, and I will continue standing up for local residents and making representations to Ministers and Wealden District Council to ensure that their decisions and actions are transparent.

This morning I was outside the Royal Courts of Justice in London to meet both Crowborough Shield and local residents before the case was being heard."
