Nusrat Ghani, MP for Sussex Weald, is calling for greater transparency and support for communities near the Crowborough Training Camp, which recently began housing asylum seekers.

She has raised concerns with both the Home Office and the Ministry of Defence, particularly regarding the impact on cadet programmes.

Ms Ghani has also met with Steve Reed, the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, to discuss the situation and the need for additional police resources.

She said: "I met with the Secretary of State as it was published in the Times newspaper that he was concerned about unrest in Crowborough.

"I wanted to have oversight of the work his department has done and discuss what more can be done to secure additional funding for Sussex Police for extra policing around the site."

She continues to seek clarity from the Home Office regarding how long asylum seekers will be housed at the site.

She said there are "now discrepancies in the Home Office’s communication as to whether it will be 12 or 18 months."

Ms Ghani is also working with the Army and RAF Cadets to secure a suitable alternative site and is supporting them further in securing funding for equipment that cannot be moved from the Training Camp.

She said Wealden District Council has "refused to meet with me and my neighbouring MPs and have not responded to my correspondence requesting evidence of what legal advice they have taken.

"I have not stopped working on the matter with the arrival of the asylum seekers last month, and I will continue standing up for local residents and making representations to Ministers and Wealden District Council to ensure that their decisions and actions are transparent."

Ms Ghani visited the Royal Courts of Justice in London and met residents and members of Crowborough Shield before a court hearing related to the site.
