Nusrat Ghani, MP for Sussex Weald, Chairman of Ways & Means, Madam Deputy Speaker has joined Mr Speaker and Parliamentary colleagues at a Flag Raising Ceremony to mark the start of Armed Forces Week, which will culminate in Armed Forces Day this Saturday 27th June.
Armed Forces Day takes place on the last Saturday each June, marking the culmination of a week of celebrations of the British Armed Forces, from currently serving personnel to Service families, veterans and cadets.
As the Chairman of Ways and Means, Madam Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons, Nusrat was pleased to join Mr Speaker for the Armed Forces Day Flag Raising Ceremony to formally start the commemoration of Armed Forces Week.
Nusrat Ghani said: “Our Armed Forces are the ultimate defenders of our security and freedom, and they are respected the world over. Many Sussex Weald towns and villages have had a long connection to the military and Armed Forces Week and Armed Forces Day give us all a chance to recognise the vital work they do and to convey our gratitude. Every year, I am delighted to join in the celebrations thanking our service personnel for their service and it is always an honour to stand with local veterans and meet local residents who serve our country at home or abroad today.”
