Sheffield Park and Garden, near Fletching, has been nominated for the Fields in Trust ‘UK’s Best Park, as voted by YOU!’ Award. Local MP Nus Ghani is encouraging constituents to support the nomination in a public vote.
Sheffield Park is a magnificent landscaped park and garden, featuring four lakes, waterfalls and many rare plants. It was designed by the English landscape architect ‘Capability’ Brown in the 18th century and has a rich history. It is now managed by the National Trust.
Over the past few weeks hundreds of nominations have been received by Fields in Trust for parks that are a much-loved part of their local communities. Now it is time to choose the winners; you can cast your vote at: http://www.fieldsintrust.org/bestpark/southeast
Fields in Trust is a national charity that operates throughout the UK to safeguard recreational spaces and campaign for better statutory protection for all kinds of outdoor sites. Sheffield Park is one of 360 nominated parks across the UK.
Commenting on the award, Ms Ghani said: “Sheffield Park is a real jewel in Wealden and I am glad it is being celebrated with this nomination. Autumn, in particular, is the perfect time to enjoy Sheffield Park, as the leaves on the trees are turning, creating a stunning display of colour. I visit as often as I can as it is a treat for children and adults and is the perfect day out, come sunshine or rain.
Parks and green spaces are important for families and communities across Wealden as they can contribute a great deal to our mental and physical health. Voting closes at 5pm on Friday 3rd November and the winner of UK's Best Park 2017 will be announced at the Fields in Trust Awards at Lord's Cricket Ground on Wednesday 29th November.
