On Friday, Nus Ghani sold poppies in aid of the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal outside Morrisons in Crowborough. Members of her team volunteered alongside Royal British Legion and Crowborough Cadets to help sell poppies at local supermarkets - Morrisons, Lidl and Waitrose.
The Royal British Legion supports veterans and service personnel in need, and their families. Last year, generous donations from people across the UK meant that the Poppy Appeal raised almost £147 million. The donations received help the Armed Forces community in many ways, ranging from the provision of rehabilitation to careers advice for those leaving the Forces.
The Poppy Appeal also invites us to remember the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces, past and present, and to wear a red poppy on our chests as a symbol of Remembrance. The Royal British Legion is committed to helping people to understand the sacrifices made in current and historic conflicts and to make sure these are never forgotten.
Nus Ghani will also be attending several Remembrance events, including a local service in Maresfield for commemorations in tribute to the fallen and planting tulips in Hailsham.
Commenting on the issue, Ms Ghani said: “I was very glad to be able to support the Royal British Legion by selling poppies, wrist bands and car poppies this year., alongside volunteers who give up their time to back our armed forces, The Royal British Legion provides very important support to service personnel and their families, as well as veterans. In addition to this, the charity helps to educate and inform people about the sacrifices made for us by the Armed Forces.
The period leading up to Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday is always incredibly humbling and poignant because we see the nation come together in remembrance of our war dead. We must, however, also remember that members of the Forces make sacrifices in service to our country every day and, as such, we must honour our Armed Forces and those who served before them, every day of the year.”
