Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, joined with Greg Rose, The Mayor of Crowborough, in order to celebrate National Care Home Open Day, at Woodlands Care Home, in Crowborough.

During Nus’ visit, she officially unveiled a new Sea-Side themed corridor in the Care Home.

The theme of this year’s National Care Home Open Day is ‘the role of art in care’. Woodlands residents worked with local toddler groups, school children and other community groups over the coming weeks to design the corridor.

During the visit, Nus met with residents, and cut a cake to celebrate the official unveiling of the new corridor.

The event concluded with the singing of a number of songs to do with the Sea, including “Oh I Do Like To Be Beside The Sea-Side” and many more. Several of the residents got further into the holiday feel by wearing garlands around their necks as well!

Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, said:

“National Care Home Open Day has always been about showcasing the exciting and fulfilling activities that go on inside care homes: in particular surrounding the arts.

“Seeing the fruition of such a wonderful inter-generational project was fantastic.

“All social interaction is vital to combatting loneliness, and it’s clear from the smiles on the faces of all those present that these sorts of activities are really doing the trick – and that’s before you get into all the studies proving how projects like this reduce the risk of illness in older people.

“Seeing this innovative work happening in Wealden is absolutely critical, and I’m proud to support it in whatever way that I can!

“I really enjoyed my time at Woodlands, and look forward to my next visit.”
