Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden met with UK wine producers at an event organised by the All-Party Parliamentary Wine & Spirit Group in conjunction with the Wine and Spirit Trade Association.

At the event, Nus discussed the challenges faced by local wine producers, especially on the issue of wine duty, which has seen a disproportionate increase as compared to spirits and beer duty. She shared their concerns that the value of the industry has to be recognised, and noted that she will be representing their concerns to the Treasury.

The group also discussed initiatives that can be taken to ensure that the wine industry is environmentally sustainable. This includes reducing greenhouse gasses from wine production, optimising water usage, promoting vineyard biodiversity, and exploring sustainable transport options for wine.

As a Member of Parliament for a constituency which boasts award winning vineyards, Nus Ghani has been a champion for local vineyards and the English wine industry. She had previously campaigned for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Department for International Trade to significantly increase the proportion of English wines to be served at diplomatic events and functions across the world.

Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, said:

“I will always champion and promote Wealden vineyards. I take great pride in our award-winning sparkling wine who are also great providers of local employment.”

“Our vineyards and their wine will always have a special role in our community and being part of our culture. They are also significant contributors to our tourism industry, as people come from across the country and the world for our premium wine and hospitality.”
