Nus Ghani

Nus Ghani held a surgery in the Uckfield Waitrose, where she met with residents who raised a number of local issues, from planning, to adult social care in Wealden.

During the surgery, the MP helped constituents by agreeing to make representations in their name with the appropriate Minister or Whitehall Department, or by referring them to the relevant local authorities.

After the surgery, Nus Ghani toured the facilities in Waitrose, taking particular interest in the scheme that aims to bring local produce to the shelves of the shop, in light of her efforts to promote local businesses and farmers. She also discussed the Waitrose’s programmes of recruitment aimed at people with additional needs.

Following the surgery and the visit, Nus Ghani said:

‘It is always a pleasure to meet and help constituents. Every year, nearly 16,000 constituents reach out to my office and I give my best in trying to support them, with whatever concerns they have.’

‘I am happy to hear that Waitrose is looking into sourcing products locally. I have long been campaigning for retailers to turn to our fantastic farmers for higher quality, healthier products. This is a big win for Wealden producers and I shall continue to lobby other outlets to follow this example. My aim is to see at least one shelf in every shop in the constituency stocked with locally produced goodies.’

‘I am glad to see how seriously Waitrose takes the recruitment of people with additional and special needs. Their compassionate approach is a shining example of inclusivity for the job market, both nationally and locally.’

When I was campaigning for your vote during the election, I promised that I would be accountable to you. When you did me the honour of electing me as Wealden's MP and it was time to give my maiden speech in the House of Commons, I pledged to follow the advice of Winnie the Pooh when he said that "You can't stay in your corner of the Forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes."
