Care Homes

Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed the amendment of immigration rules to allow foreign workers in key health and care roles to have greater opportunities to come to the UK.

Foreign workers in key health and care roles will have a greater opportunity to come to the UK following changes to the Immigration Rules for the Skilled Worker route.

Pharmacists, laboratory technicians, senior care workers and nursing assistants are among roles that have been added to the Shortage Occupation List, which gives people in these roles an advantage in obtaining a skilled worker visa.

Nus Ghani said: “One of the biggest concerns of care home managers in Wealden is the difficulty in recruiting skilled staff to help care for our loved ones. Previously, care workers were excluded in the new points-based immigration system and I have worked relentlessly with Wealden care home managers and urged the Government to make a change. I am pleased that my lobbying was successful, resulting in a better understanding of the care sector and its difficulties regarding recruitment, and making it easier to recruit healthcare workers from around the world.”
