Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed the announcement that due to a funding boost from the East Sussex County Council, bus travel around East Sussex will be cheaper this summer.
The measure is a key part of the council’s Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP), and is helping to reduce bus fares across East Sussex in a bid to increase passenger numbers. The funds come from the Concessionary Fare Reimbursement budget, unspent due to the pre-Covid year on year reduction in concessionary pass use in the county.
A range of discounts for passengers will be introduced, including a new £5 East Sussex single operator day ticket, family and group travel tickets and an off-peak unaccompanied young person £1 flat single fare ticket.
Further improvements are expected to be introduced under East Sussex County Council’s BSIP when indicative Government funding of up to £41.4 million is confirmed in the autumn.
Nusrat Ghani said: “I am pleased that residents across Wealden and East Sussex will enjoy cheaper bus fares this summer. Bus services are a vital service in Wealden and this boost in investment will help connect communities throughout East Sussex.”
