Community Garden

Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed the news that Local Sustainable Community Interest Company (CIC) based in Forest Row has recently secured funding from the National Lottery Community Fund to support their Spring Rise Community Gardens project.

Spring Rise Community Gardens is a learning on the land initiative, developing into a resource for the local community to learn about local and sustainable food, craft and culture. The land is being developed into an ecologically diverse, four-seasons resource for learning with biodynamic principles at the core. The project aims to create healthier and more resilient communities by deepening community participation in food culture through growing harvesting and eating local produce.

The funding secured from National Lottery Community Fund will be used to enable multi-generational opportunities for residents to work collectively to create an outdoor covered kitchen and to grow and enjoy fresh seasonal produce together as a community.

Between August and November 2022 alone, the National Lottery Community Fund awarded over £45,000 to community projects in Wealden. Other recent successful applications included MAYFACS, Lymley Wood Community Interest Company in Mayfield, Artytime in Crowborough and the Mount Camphill Community in Wadhurst.

Nusrat Ghani said: “Community projects play a crucial role in supporting Wealden residents and this vital source of funding has already provided a lifeline to many local community organisations across the constituency. It is fantastic news that Spring Rise Community Gardens are the latest recipients of this grant, which will enable them to widen opportunities for Forest Row communities to come together learn more about growing sustainable local produce.”
