After 5 months since the first occupants were moved into Crowborough Training Camp by the Home Office, I am conducting a survey directly asking Crowborough residents what impact this has had on them. The results of this survey will be used as part of my ongoing representations and work on behalf of residents.
It is a shame that Crowborough has received national attention since the Home Office announced it would be using Crowborough Training Camp as asylum accommodation last Autumn.
The Home Office stated they would be occupying the site for 12 months, but it has now been revealed via court documents that they have an option to be there until 2030. The Home Office taking over the site has forced our local Cadet Units to move out of what was the busiest cadet training facility in the South-East. It has also resulted in large demonstrations being held weekly in Crowborough, with a number of residents living nearby also reporting difficulties selling their homes.
As your MP, I have opposed the use of Crowborough Training Camp by the Home Office from the moment they announced their plans in October 2025. I gathered a petition which was signed by more than 5,800 local residents and called on Wealden District Council to take legal action and challenge the Home Office’s use of the site, and lack of local consultation, something they have refused to do, but which Crowborough Shield CIC has done.
Working with neighbouring MPs, many Parliamentary questions and Freedom of Information requests have been submitted, with demands for proper public engagement by both Ministers and Wealden District Council made. You can read more at: www.nusghani.org.uk/campaigns/crowborough-training-camp.
