Wealden MP Nus Ghani joined representatives from the charities and South East Water who set up the fund.

The Crowborough Community Fund was set up by South East Water following the supply issues at the end of 2022, to recognise the wider impact on the community. The fund is in addition to individual compensation payments that were paid directly to affected customers.

There was an overwhelming response from charities across Crowborough who applied for a share of the £50,000 fund. The winning recipients received their cheques at a ceremony in the town.

The successful recipients are: MAYFACS, Crowborough Foodbank, Wealden Citizens Advice, Clued-up info, Mediation +, Baby2Baby & Beyond,  Family Support Work, Care for the Carers, 1st Groombridge Guides, You raise me up, Rotherfield St Martin, Dementia Singing Experience Sussex, Friends of Fermor School, Crowborough Community First Responders, Groombridge WI, Buxted Pavilion, Sky High Trampoline Gymnastics Academy, Create Music, Rotherfield Village Hall, St Peter & St James Hospice and Home-Start East Sussex.

Nus Ghani said: "The December outages were hugely disruptive and unacceptable. I have been persistently campaigning for individual payments to all households affected and I am pleased to have secured compensation to over 430 more South East Water customers. I welcome this additional grant of £50,000 that is being distributed amongst our fantastic local charities who provide vital services and support for Wealden communities and will benefit from this much-needed funding boost."
