Wealden MP Nus Ghani has recently visited the Crowborough Community Centre in East Sussex where the “Home and Away” landscape paintings by artist Jeannette Towey are currently on display. The exhibition is located in the café area and corridors and features over thirty paintings of landscapes from Wealden and Sussex, as well as landscapes, seascapes and nature paintings from all over the UK and from abroad.
Jeannette started drawing and painting pictures since a young age and learned oil painting, along with print-making, at evening classes at St Martin’s, and studied History of Art at the Courtauld, specialising in fifteenth-century Italian painting and painting techniques.
She works exclusively in oils and paints mostly from photographs that she has taken herself. A limited edition of prints is now available to purchase. The exhibition at the community centre was originally scheduled until the end of September, but has been extended due to high demand.
Nus Ghani said: “I am aware of the challenges that the pandemic has presented to artists across the constituency especially since it blighted their contact with the public and customers. It was a pleasure visiting the Crowborough Community Centre and viewing Jeannette’s paintings. It is fantastic to see the work of a local artist exhibited at the heart of Crowborough and I particularly enjoyed the beautiful landscapes of the Ashdown Forest and Wealden’s countryside. I am pleased to see so much support from the local community and delighted that the exhibition has been extended.”
