Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, has urged the Health Secretary to share data to better inform Wealden authorities about the impact of colder weather on Covid-19, ahead of autumn and winter.

Speaking in the House of Commons, Nus highlighted uncertainty about the impact of colder weather on the virus. She advocated for any data available to the Government to be shared with East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, East Sussex County Council and Wealden District Council. Sharing this data would help to mitigate any additional spike in cases, potentially caused by colder weather, adding to the annual winter pressures faced by the NHS.

The Health Secretary has promised to publish all scientific evidence on the impact of cold weather on Covid-19.

The Health Secretary has also confirmed that the Government will be rolling out the biggest ever flu vaccination programme in our country’s history. Together with the NHS leadership, work is underway to deliver flu vaccines for every single person working in the NHS this winter.

Nus Ghani said: “It is crucial that the NHS gets the support it needs to withstand the unprecedented pressures of this coming winter. I welcome the Health Secretary’s assurances to publish information on coronavirus and colder weather when it becomes available. It is vital that our local services across Wealden have the most reliable data available to prepare resources for dealing with both the virus and the winter flu.”
