Ghani Opens New Post Office

Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, opened a new Post Office in Mayfield.

Accompanied by Cllr. Rupert Simmons, Nus met with Mrs Jo Eates, the new Post-Master in Wealden, alongside staff, and members of the public to cut a ribbon to open the Post Office.

The new branch will be located at Rusden’s Homes, on the High Street, and pledges to provide ‘a convenient, quick service in a modern retail environment’ according to Cheryl Sitch, the Area Manager for the Post Office.

Services on offer will include bill payments, cash withdrawal, bureau de change, postage, home-shopping collections and returns, and will be situated inside of the homewares store itself.

Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, said:

“I was delighted to learn a few months ago that after the closure of the previous branch last May, that Mayfield would once again have a Post Office.

“Opening it today was a great moment: The Post Office provides vital services to local people, and I am proud to have campaigned, alongside the Mayfield Business Forum, for this new branch to be opened.

“I have worked with several communities across Wealden to keep Post Offices open, from Groombridge to Hailsham, and I will continue to lobby Post Office Ltd. when they make short-sighted decisions which will impact the local community.

“I am delighted that the fruits of that are now visible, and that this important fixture in Mayfield’s community is back up and running.”
