Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, is proud to support a fundraising campaign of Crowborough’s Athletic Football Club, to get their junior pitches ready for when the season resumes.
Crowborough Athletic Football Club has provided football to the local community since 1894. An extended period of severe weather has meant that the football club has been unable to host a game since early March 2020 and lacked the opportunity to raise funds ever since. The lost revenue is estimated to be up to £10,000.
Currently, the three junior pitches outside the stadium are in an extremely poor condition and unplayable on. Crowborough Athletic provide football to around 120 children in the area and its aim is to get those children back out on a training pitch. To make these three pitches playable again, they need to be scarified, Verti-drained, top-dressed, seeded and fertilised. The Club is aiming to raise the necessary £5,000 to support this project.
If you can, please support the Club’s fundraiser by donating here. No amount is too small to make a difference.
Nus Ghani has long campaigned for better funding for local clubs. She has raised the issue of lack of investment in local football clubs with the Premier League, which recently awarded grants worth £14,500 in total to seven clubs in Wealden. Alderbrook playing field in Crowborough was one of the successful applicants and was awarded a grant of £1,500. This funding was used for the maintenance of the main pitch inside the stadium, where the Crowborough Athletic FC First Team plays.
Nus Ghani said: “Crowborough Athletic FC is a great club with a long history and a strong presence in the community and I would like to express my deepest gratitude for the resilience the Club has shown during these times of uncertainty. As we see the signs of the virus retreating, I look forward to Wealden grassroots football resuming and for our communities to come together once again, to enjoy the game they love.”
“If you can, please support the Club in ensuring that our youngest players have access to all the necessary facilities and can soon return to playing football at the club with their friends, in fresh air and on safe playing surface.
