Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, is delighted that after raising the issue of lack of investment in local football clubs with the Premier League, three grants were awarded to Wealden football clubs through the Premier League's Matchday Support Fund.
A total of £10,000 worth of investment has been shared between Crowborough Athletic FC, Hailsham Town FC and AFC Uckfield Town. This will help these clubs cover the costs of adjustments that need to be made to safely cater for the return of players and supporters to the stadiums.
Nus has continuously campaigned for better funding for our local football clubs. Earlier this year, seven grants worth £14,500 in total have been awarded to clubs in Wealden through the Pitch Preparation Club. This funding was used for maintenance work and reseeding of pitches in preparation for matches to resume.
Nus has also successfully supported the Crowborough Athletic FC’s £5,000 fundraiser to improve their junior pitches, and Hailsham Town FC’s £3,000 fundraiser to improve their drainage system and protect the pitch from damage caused by heavy rainfall.
Nus Ghani said: “Wealden's football clubs play a key role in local communities and are often a starting point for many talented footballers. Grassroots football is at the heart of Wealden sport and I will continue to campaign for improvements to their facilities. I have proudly supported our local clubs with their fundraisers, and I have joined with likeminded MPs to call for an urgent return of non-league football club fans to the stadiums. I am delighted that our Crowborough, Hailsham and Uckfield football clubs will receive this investment from the Premier League, and I look forward to Wealden grassroots football to resume fully.”
