Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden has welcomed the Government’s announcement of a new investment into British Armed Forces.
The Prime Minister has announced £16.5 billion extra in defence funding to strengthen British Armed Forces and extend British influence as a force for good in the world.
This new four-year funding deal is the biggest programme of investment in British defence since the end of the Cold War and will protect hundreds of thousands of jobs and create 40,000 new roles.
The funding will be invested in a cutting-edge technology ensuring that the UK is a global leader in domains such as cyber and space. The Prime Minister also announced the creation of a new agency dedicated to Artificial Intelligence, the creation of a National Cyber Force, a new ‘Space Command’, capable of launching our first rocket in 2022.
Nus Ghani said: “We are extremely lucky that Wealden is a great, safe place to live and has consistently low levels of crime. However, we are not immune from international threat. I welcome the news of this record investment in UK defence capabilities and our Armed Forces. I am part of the NATO science and technology committee, which is currently considering vulnerabilities in the cyber space and opportunities for stronger cyber security. With threats from Russia and China constantly looming, we must protect our data and ensure that Britain is the world leader in new technology and cyber security.”
