GHANI WELCOMES THE REOPENING OF LOCAL HIGH STREETS

High Street

Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, welcomes the reopening of all shops in England from today.

Providing that safety guidelines are followed in order to protect customers and staff, all non-essential shops, department stores and shopping centres are now able to reopen. This will help to restart British economy and allow high streets across the country to spring back to life, whilst ensuring the risk of infection is kept down to avoid the possibility of a second wave.

Retail workers have been going above and beyond during the pandemic to ensure everyone is safe. Customers can support these efforts by following the instructions issued by the British Retail Consortium:

  1. Queue considerately
  2. Maintain social distancing
  3. Follow instructions inside and outside shops
  4. Follow all necessary hygiene measures
  5. Be respectful to shop workers

Nus Ghani said: “This spring has been an incredibly challenging period for Wealden’s local shops and high streets, and I am aware of the toll that the last few months have taken on them. I greatly encourage people to step away from their screens, step onto the high street and shop to save our favourite local stores. Please remember to maintain social distancing at all times, follow necessary hygiene measures and respect the staff.”

“As our shopping habits change to limit the spread of the virus, Sundays are becoming increasingly busy and shops are getting overwhelmed. I will continue to campaign for Sunday Trading Laws to be suspended in order to manage social distancing better, reduce queues, enable customers to shop safely and create new jobs.”

Employers should display a notice (available here) visibly in their shop windows or outside their store to show their employees, customers and other visitors that they comply with Government guidance.

Employers can also access 8 workplace guidance documents on how to work safely during coronavirus on the Government website here.
