It was committed in 2023-2023 to a range of projects that aim to deliver improved facilities in deprived areas, support multi-sport use and increase participation among currently under-represented groups. Projects support a range of facility types, from the creation or upgrade of changing rooms, grass pitches and 3G football turf pitches and pavilions, to floodlights, fencing and improved disabled access.
Fords Green in Nutley, home to Nutley Football Club, is one of the successful projects, which will benefit from £1,367 investment to upgrade its goalposts.
Nusrat Ghani MP said: “Grassroots facilities are essential for nurturing future sporting talent and encouraging people to get active which benefits their physical and mental wellbeing. Grassroots football is at the heart of Wealden sport. I am pleased to have previously secured grants for several Wealden football clubs via the Premier League fund, and I very much welcome the announcement that Fords Green in Nutley will benefit from this much-needed boost to improve our local sports facilities and help more people access them. This Government programme will help to deliver the huge mental health and wellbeing benefits associated with sport, and also ensure particular focus on increasing participation among underrepresented groups such as women and girls, and those with a disability.”
