Wealden MP Nus Ghani has written to primary schools across Wealden to congratulate them for achieving increases from last year in the proportion of pupils achieving the expected standard in reading, writing and maths at Key Stage 2.

Twenty-four schools across Wealden saw an average increase of more than 25 per cent in the 2018 Key Stage 2 results. The reformed Key Stage 2 tests have set a higher standard in schools, bringing England’s primary school curriculum closer to the curricula common in countries with the most successful education systems.

The reformed KS2 tests come on the back drop of the core schools budget rising from almost £41 billion to a record £43.5 billion by 2019/20.

Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, said: “It’s fantastic to see the proportion of pupils achieving the expected standard in reading, writing and mathematics increase in so many of our primary schools in Hailsham, Crowborough, Uckfield and the surrounding villages.

“These results are a testament to the hard work of teachers and pupils across Wealden, and I’d like to thank everyone for their dedication in inspiring the next generation of future leaders.

“I regularly host Wealden schools in Parliament and am looking forward to welcoming more to Westminster in 2019 – these results are an excellent way to start the year!”
