Uckfield Chamber of Commerce

Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, has virtually met with members of the Uckfield Chamber of Commerce to discuss the challenges posed by the ongoing pandemic and available support for businesses.

At the well-attended virtual meeting, the available support as well as new lockdown grant opportunities were discussed. Business leaders also had the opportunity to voice their anxieties regarding the increased administration in light of Brexit and corporation tax rates. However, despite the current challenges, businesses are keen to promote their services in the area to send a clear message that Uckfield remains open for business.

Nus has long been working closely with Wealden’s three Chambers of Commerce: Uckfield, Crowborough and Hailsham. During these unprecedented times, she is in daily contact with them or their members to discuss our local and national economy and job security.

Nus is holding weekly surgeries for local businesses and residents to offer help and to ensure that their concerns are reflected in government policy. If you need urgent assistance regarding the coronavirus, please email: [email protected].

Nus Ghani said: “Small businesses in Wealden are the backbone of our local economy and this has been an incredibly difficult period for them. I was pleased to hear from Uckfield business leaders that despite the ongoing restrictions, there is still a lot of business going on in Wealden and that the majority of businesses were able to access funding from the Government or from Wealden District Council. As a member of the Covid Recovery Group, I keep stressing the unintended consequences on lockdowns on Wealden economy to the Government and I hope that once the national restrictions are over, business in Wealden will resume fully.”
