Nus Ghani has announced the winners of her annual Christmas card competition for local primary schools across Wealden.
Every student at every primary school in Wealden was invited to submit an entry to the competition and Nus received hundreds of entries, making the final choice very difficult.
The winner of the competition this year was:
- Harry Bennett (aged 7) from St John’s C of E Primary School, Crowborough.
Harry created a vibrant and festive mixed-media picture of Father Christmas flying over Ashdown Forest on his sleigh delivering Christmas presents. His design is featured on the front of Nus’s Christmas card, which will be delivered to thousands of people, both across the constituency and nationwide, as well as being featured on Nus’s website.
Harry and his family have been invited by Nus to visit Parliament, have a tour of the Palace of Westminster and join her for tea.
Superb festive artwork was also submitted by the three talented runners-up this year, whose designs will feature on the back of Nus’s card, were:
- Scarlett Phillips (aged 7) from Rotherfield Primary School.
- Georgia Ann Hodges (aged 11) from Frant C of E Primary School.
- Thea Godfrey (aged 11) from Blackboys C of E Primary School.
Nus was able to visit Harry Bennet’s school, St John’s in Crowborough, last week to present him with an award and to meet the students, his parents, grandparents and teachers.
Commenting on the competition, Ms Ghani said: “This year I was, yet again, blown away by the quantity and sheer creativity of the entries in my primary school Christmas card competition. I really enjoyed looking at each of the entries and admiring the thought and care that had gone into each wonderful card. The designs ranged from snowy visions of the Thames to farm animals in Wealden preparing for Christmas.
Choosing a the final winners and runners-up proved to be a very difficult task; however, Harry’s really stood out for me due to his effective use of different art materials to create an eye-catching, glittery and colourful design.
It was a delight meeting Harry and his family as well as his school-mates and teachers at St Johns last week at a special assembly to say thank you Harry ad his art teacher. I was able to chat to the students about their plans for Christmas as well as answering their questions about life as a Member of Parliament.
I very much look forward to meeting Harry and his family again when I show them around Parliament in the new year.
