Following the water supply problems that affected large parts of Wealden over the last month, Wealden MP Nus Ghani wrote to South East Water, to clarify the compensation situation for affected constituents.
South East Water confirmed that anyone who was without water for between 3 and 24 hours would receive £25, up to two days would receive £50 and more than two days would receive £100.
The water company, who estimated that more than 8,000 properties in Wealden were without water, also confirmed that each school which suffered water problems would receive a donation of £2,500.
Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, said:“After contacting South East Water, I am glad to see that they are donating £2,500 to each school that had to go without water, as well as offering automatic compensation pay-outs to affects residents.
“While this compensation does go some way to alleviating the concerns that my constituents have, it does not change the fact that many people were left without water for more than four days, which is unacceptable.
“I will continue to be in touch with South East Water to ensure that the compensation they are offering is in line with other water companies across the country. My understanding at this time is that people in other affected areas may have received more.
“Wealden was adversely affected by the water supply problems. It is vital that South East Water fully offset the distress caused for residents and schools without water”.
