Nus Ghani has launched her 2017 Christmas card competition for local primary schools.
Every student at every primary school in Wealden has been invited to submit an entry to the competition, with the winning design to be featured on her Christmas card this year. The three shortlisted designs will appear on the back of the Christmas card.
The Christmas card will be delivered to thousands of people, both across the constituency and nationwide, as well as being featured on Nus’s website.
The winner of the competition will also be invited by Nus, along with their family, to visit Parliament, have a tour of the Palace of Westminster and tea with Nus.
Nus launched this Christmas card competition in 2016 and was delighted to receive over 300 entries from schools all across Wealden and she hopes even more schools will take part this year.
The winner of the 2016 competition was Emma (aged 10) from Mark Cross C of E Primary School, whose design incorporated the Elizabeth Tower (also known as Big Ben). The runners up were: Dan Boyett (aged 10) from Rotherfield Primary School, Amir Ragragui (aged 10) from Grove Park School and Katherine Pearce (aged 5) from High Hurstwood Primary School. Last year, the wining card featured in both the local papers and the national press and media, helping to put the school and Wealden on the map.
Commenting on the competition, Ms Ghani said: “I know it’s a little early to be raising Christmas, but last year I was blown away by the quality and quantity of the entries, the vibrant colours and Christmas and Winnie the Pooh themes across all ages were a delight to judge. Many more schools have expressed an interest this year and I look forward to receiving entries.
Choosing the 2016 winner was incredibly difficult because there were so many outstanding designs and, having seen how creative Wealden’s students are during my visits to schools this year, I expect the judging will be just as difficult.
The winning design for my Christmas card last year, by Emma from Mark Cross Primary School, was even featured in the national press and I am sure that whatever beautiful design is chosen this year will receive lots of attention!
Don’t forget to send your entries to me by the 1st of November!”
