Nus Ghani has been asked by the Prime Minister, Theresa May, to join her Government in two roles, as a Minister in the Department for Transport, and as a Government Whip.
The Department for Transport covers a wide array of policy areas, including aviation, maritime, rail and road, as well as encouraging the use of environmentally friendly and new technology transport methods.
As a Government Whip, Nus will be responsible for helping take major pieces of important legislation through Parliament.
Commenting on her appointment, Ms Ghani said: “I am delighted and honoured to have been asked by the Prime Minister to serve in her Government as a Minister in the Department for Transport and as a Government Whip.
The roles are both exciting and challenging opportunities, and I am looking forward to getting started and making a difference. Earlier today I met with the Department’s Permanent Secretary at the Department for Transport and I am looking forward to getting stuck in.
Transport is a subject on which I have campaigned passionately since being elected as the MP for Wealden. Alongside my Ministerial duties, I will continue to be a strong voice for Wealden and deliver for my constituents."
