Nus Ghani recently attended an event in Parliament focused on the Premier League’s primary school programme, Premier League Primary Stars, which draws upon the excitement of the Premier League and young people’s interest in football to help inspire children to learn, be active and develop important life skills.
Premier League Primary Stars is open to all primary schools across England and Wales where they can access completely free teaching resource packs covering PE, English, Maths and PSHE for children aged 5-11. Real life examples from football provide lesson content, videos and fun activities to enhance children’s understanding and interest across the curriculum.
So far, 23 primary schools in Wealden, including Grovelands Community Primary School in Hailsham, Buxted CofE Primary School in Uckfield and Jarvis Brook Primary School in Crowborough, are benefitting from the initiative. Nus is working with the Premier League to make sure all primary schools across Wealden can access the free resources available to them. Wealden schools can contact the Premier League or Nus for more information.
All 20 Premier League clubs participate in Primary Stars, including local Premier League team Brighton and Hove Albion. Through the club’s official charity, Albion in the Community, the football club have been fully supportive of the Primary Stars programme, as well as other activities to encourage primary school children to get active, such as an inter-school football competition across Sussex.
Commenting on the programme, Nus Ghani said:
“Premier League Primary Stars is a wonderful and free resource available to all primary schools in Wealden, and I’m delighted to see that so many schools are already taking advantage of what’s on offer.
I would encourage every primary school that isn’t already participating in Primary Stars to sign up for free. Premier League football is always going to be a popular way to get primary school children more engaged in the classroom and more active on the playing field.
With our very own local Premier League team, Brighton and Hove Albion, going from strength to strength, there has never been a better time for Wealden children to benefit from the excitement and draw of the Premier League, and I’m delighted to see all the work they’re doing in our communities”.
